Marlowe to promote Ian

Wednesday, July 25th, 2007

I am just completing all the elements for the new V6.0 marsdencartoons.com website. I decided to ask my buddy Marlowe over to give me a hand with the navigation. He was drawn in Adobe Illustrator and will be appearing in a brief flash animation in the site navigation. He’s going to move his eyes a little bit and sniff his fish.

Why, you ask?
I don’t know, frankly!

:)

Marlowe smells a rat…well a fish in any event

Ian D. Marsden – stock art now on www.fotofinder.com

Tuesday, July 24th, 2007

A selection of Ian D. Marsden cartoons and illustrations are now available as stock art at www.fotofinder.com – just type in the searchwords: Ian Marsden and you will have an ever growing selection to choose from. Of course as an illustrator it is always fun to be contacted directly and create a ’special’ custom made piece for the client, but sometimes it is also nice to have ready-made pieces available too.

Postcard Nr. 01

I love to draw and write nonsensical postcards whenever I have the chance (and time). I buy postcard format pads of Bristol or watercolor paper and simply draw whatever comes to mind – then a few words on the back, an address, a stamp and off they go.

The nice thing about the Rotring ArtPen ink, is that you can go over it with a paintbrush and water and give it a fine wash.

For many years I did this without even scanning them, so only the people who received them (if they received them, that is) would even know they ever existed.

Moleskine®

Friday, July 6th, 2007

In case you are not familiar with the Moleskine line of Cahiers and Notebooks, might I recommend you visit their site and have a look. The site also allows you to locate shops where you purchase Moleskine items near you.

I used to buy mine at the Sci Arc art supply store (conveniently located right next to the lovely groundwork coffee shop) at 811 Traction Ave in the art district of Los Angeles (just up the road from Gottfried Helnwein’s studio).

Luckily, I am having no trouble finding them most everywhere I travel.

I like various kinds and sizes – the paper often has a yellowish/cream colored hue, which at first I was unsure about, but which I have grown to really enjoy.

I can particularly recommend the small pocket-sized books. They are ideal to carry in the inside suit-jacket pocket or even the hip pocket of your jeans and they have a convenient rubber band to hold them shut.

One would not ever want to be caught without a notepad or sketchbook when that inspiration hits on the Tube in London or that amazing character goes strolling by while one is sitting on the terrace of a café in Budapest, now would one?

PS: For the record: I am not an endorsed spokesperson for Moleskine, however if they feel like shipping me a box or two of their fine product I would most certainly not be insulted. :)

Here are some direct links to my early Google Doodles.

The first Cartoons I made for Google, were shown on April Fool’s Day 2000.

Google launched the amazing MentalPlex Technology where you could just think of what you were searching for and Google would find it. See the instructions here:

Sergio Aragones, Jack Davis and…Ian Marsden???

2 extremely famous and gifted cartoonist….

San Francisco, 2003. Hey, who is the Jackass in the middle? How did he get past security?? Get him outta there!!

:)

You know what is really nice? To meet your childhood idols in person, and when you do, they actually turn out to be even greater than you imagined them to be! These two gentlemen are about as fine as they come.

Captain Laurent’s Excellent Rhum

Thursday, July 5th, 2007

A local friend of mine makes his own flavored rums for his personal enjoyment and for when friends come over to visit, which ironically tends to happen far more frequently right after he has made a new batch of flavored rums (at least in my case) :)

He asked me if I could make some labels for his devilishly delicious potions.

Here is the result.
