Pirate and Parrot: Realtime Cartoon Tutorial YouTube Video

Pirate and Parrot: Realtime Cartoon Tutorial YouTube Video
Artist: Ian David Marsden

Hi,
In this brief video I am doing a rough freehand sketch of a pirate with a parrot on his shoulder. Hard to tell from the drawing which one of the two has a higher I.Q. I have to admit. Safe to assume that together they might not quite make it to 100, but that doesn’t matter. They are lovely individuals and they have hearts of gold. The parrot however is slightly distressed, because he misplaced a winning Euro Millions ticket, but that is another matter entirely.

I hope you enjoy watching the video of their creation. :)

Ian

Custom Made Illustrations for Business and Corporate Communication, B2B, Presentations, Internal publications and training materials.

Custom Made Illustrations for Business and Corporate Communication, B2B, Presentations, Internal publications and training materials.

One of my specialties is designing and creating custom illustrations for businesses, small enterprises and corporations for use in their internal communication, training materials, B2B, for presentation purposes or of course also for actual advertising and promotional materials.

My clients often write to me how happy they were with my artwork and my performance after a successful presentation or after a seminar where material was used that had that extra little touch, those custom made spot illustrations and elegant and unusual ideas or little creative touches.

I can come up with light hearted and amusing ideas that will make text and graphs that might otherwise seem a little dry spring to life and pop off the page or the screen. My name is Ian Marsden and I am a very experienced freelance illustrator and designer. You can find my biography and a partial client list in the menu bar above. References available on request. I am available for contract work and would be delighted to discuss your project with you and provide you with a free estimate.

The other major advantage of using illustrations is that they are ideally self-explanatory and completely language independent and can be used worldwide for all your e-mail, web or print needs and always complement the local language text.

Here are a few examples of illustrations in a clean linear style which is amusing but not too cartoony and pleasing to the eye.

Layout in Adobe Illustrator

This is the Layout stage in Adobe Illustrator. The two scientists have completed line-art but aren’t colored yet. The robots are only scribbles – I was waiting for approval from the editors and also still creating pencil sketches of the robots. I am a big fan of robots so I wanted to create some really nice, retro-style robots.

Ball Point Pen doodle on legal pad

I am usually always doodling. Always have been. If I am on hold on the phone or even watching TV I like to scribble away.

I find that a ball point pen is quite fun to do really fast sketches and fine hatching.

I can go through these so fast you can see the ink go down in the back.
