Character design, logos, mascots and graphics for internal and external communication

Character design for companies and corporations for their internal and external communication. Logos, mascots, fun and striking illustrations.
For internal use for presentations, pitches or in-house publications or for external PR, advertising or promotional material.

Crisp, clean and professional artwork. Tailor made and executed as vector or bitmap art.

Here are two examples of illustration artwork and character designs that I had the pleasure of creating for some of my clients.
The first is a stylized version of Joseph von Fraunhofer for the Fraunhofer Gesellschaft.
Fraunhofer is Europe’s largest application-oriented research organization. Our research efforts are geared entirely to people’s needs: health, security, communication, energy and the environment. As a result, the work undertaken by our researchers and developers has a significant impact on people’s lives. We are creative. We shape technology. We design products. We improve methods and techniques. We open up new vistas. In short, we forge the future.

The character was used on the web and print and in animation for events and youth-related contests. After a sketch and design phase, final artwork was created as vector art in Adobe Illustrator CS3.

The second is a poster for Norman Corwin, The Odyssey of Runyon Jones, Anthracite Films. This artwork was again vector art based and created in Adobe Illustrator CS5.

Character Designs and Spot Illustrations for Corporate Clients and Business Communication

Below are a few examples for character designs and line art illustrations that were developed for a comic strip for internal company publications. The style was to be clean and fun but also remain business like.
Clean line art, kept in black and white, with a few corporate spot colors. The story concepts would revolve around actual office themes and current projects, and sometimes also contain lighthearted tips and reminders.

Such custom designed spot illustrations can lighten up even rather dry copy and focus your attention on important passages. What’s more is that often the fee for a custom created series of illustrations is pretty much the same as what you would expect to pay for pre-existing stock art images. Except of course they look and feel custom tailored to your project and therefore elevate the production value considerably.

Fox Character Design – for corporate enterprise client print and web

From the initial conceptual phase coming up with the ‘Fox’ character and evolving the Fox over several iterations, through scribbles and layouts to the final artwork as digital vector files in Adobe Illustrator CS5 I worked closely with the client to establish the a character with the right feel and then later create various poses, stories and comic strips featuring Mister Fox.

Usage in all media for print advertising materials, brochures and a calendar explaining energy efficiency in new houses.

Ich heisse Ian Marsden und bin ein freischaffender Illustrator, Zeichner, Animator, Karikaturist und Cartoonist. Ich war mit 16 Jahren der jüngste Nebelspalter Zeichner und durfte seither für fast alle Schweizerischen Publikationen mit Rang und Namen zeichnerisch tätig sein, und auch in vielen internationalen Zeitschriften und Zeitungen.
